St Pauls's Church, Coven
St Paul's is the parish church for the village of Coven. The parish priest, Fr. Malcolm Lockey, Churchwardens and the congregation are anxious to support the life and work of St Paul's CE First School in any way that they can. Fr. Malcolm is a member of the Governing Body and regularly visits school.
Each half term, we enjoy a special service in school or at church to launch our new Christian Value which is then explored further during whole school worship and class worship. At other times during the school year such as Harvest Festival, Christingle and at Christmas, special services are held at St Paul's where the children and staff usually make an active contribution by singing, performing little plays, reading and leading prayers. A very special and important Mass is celebrated toward the end of the summer term when those Year 4 Children who are moving on, receive a special blessing as part of the service. Special 'Family' services are held in church to mark other occasions such as 'Mothering Sunday' – Palm Sunday, The Feast of St Paul etc.
The Parochial Church Council [PCC] of St Paul's, is to give consideration to admitting Year 4 to Holy Communion before Confirmation. If agreed by the PCC, this development will be discussed with the Diocese, parents and the school and will involve careful preparation of the children for what is hoped will be a joyous First Holy Communion Service.
By encouraging children to be fully part of Holy Communion services, and by involving them as active participants in the Liturgy of the Church, it is hoped that we can build on the work of 'Branches' – the weekly activity group held in church for children 4 – 9 yrs so that children will maintain contact with St Paul's once they have left St Paul's school.
