Nursery Provision at St Paul's
A child will be eligible for admission to the Nursery class in the term after they turn 3 years old. Admission is subject to an application being made and places being available.
There are 24 morning places in the Nursery and 16 afternoon places, with each session lasting 3 hours. These will be allocated according to the criteria below and not whether the applicant requires a 15 or 30 hours place.
We offer three different models for the allocation of these places subject to availability.
The models we offer are:-
Full Day Place, AM & PM Session (30 Hours) 8.50 AM – 3.00 PM
AM Sessions 5 mornings a week (15 Hours) 8.50AM - 11.50AM
PM Sessions 5 afternoons a week (15 Hours) 12.00PM – 3.00PM
Specific numbers for each type of place will be decided, depending on demand, and will be at the Local Governing Body Admissions Committee’s discretion.
Where a family does NOT qualify for 30 hours per week of free early years education but expresses an interest in and takes up the offer of the 30 hours, they will be liable for the cost of 15 hrs childcare per week to be charged at the published rate determined by the Local Governing Body Admissions Committee.
Please note Nursery education is a non-statutory provision and there is therefore no right of appeal against the admission authority’s decision.
The Governors expect that parents applying for places for their children will accept and uphold the Christian character and ethos of the school.
In the event of over-subscription, preference will be given to those children living closest to the school. The distance is measured in a straight line from the address point of the pupil’s house, as set by Ordnance Survey, to the nearest school gate available for pupils to use. This is calculated using the Admission and Transport Team’s Geographical Information System.
Where the Nursery is oversubscribed it will maintain a waiting list in criteria order.
The needs of the child are our priority. The final decision on the number of hours a child is able to attend and his or her pattern of attendance, rests with the Headteacher.
Whilst we will endeavour to accommodate parents' requested preferences, (i.e. am or pm, 15 hrs or 30 hrs), this may not always be possible.
30 hours Childcare Offer
From September 2017, eligible families of 3 year olds may be able to claim 30 hours of free childcare per week. At St Paul's, this will be offered as a morning and an afternoon session (6 hours per day) for 38 weeks of the year (term time only). Our afternoon nursery session will run from 12:00 - 3:00pm and the children will remain in the same room for the whole day if attending for 6 hours. There will be a 10 minute change over period from 11:50 - 12:00 where the morning children go home and the afternoon children arrive. This time is supervised by the afternoon nursery staff and we ask for a voluntary contribution of £1 for this time.
If you think you may be eligible for an afternoon nursery place for 30 hours, please call the school office and speak to Mrs Elphick (Admin Assistant) or make an appointment to see Mrs Payton, our afternoon nursery manager.
Before and After-School Club
Children who are eligible for the 30 hours of free childcare may use the school's before and after school club. Please see the Before and After School Club page for more information.
From September 2017, we will be offering a limited number of afternoon places for Rising 3 children. These are children who turn 3 between September and December. These sessions run each afternoon from 12:00 - 3:00pm during school term time only and cost £15 per session. We ask that parents book for a minimum of three sessions per week. If you are interested in a Rising 3 place for your child, please call the school office and make an appointment to speak to Mrs Payton, our afternoon nursery manager.
